A Model Forest
Fatima’s research work is in the socio-environmental and community psychology field. It addresses social and subjective processes involved in and to promote participatory local governance, rural sustainability and gender equity in rural life.
Fátima Cruz-Souza is has PhD in Social Psychology (2003). She is an associate professor since 2006 in the Department of Psychology of the University of Valladolid (UVA) at the Faculty of Education at Palencia Campus. Fátima is also a member of the Chair in Gender Studies of the UVA from 2006 to 2016. She is a visiting teacher in: University of São Paulo (Brazil); Sakarya University (Turkey); University Southeast of Norway; UNESP – State University of São Paulo and Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Fátima is also a visiting scholar in the Center for Instructional Research and Curriculum Evaluation (CIRCE) in 2009, 2010 and 2012 and lately in 2016 at the Department of Educational Psychology of the College of Education - University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Campus, working with Professor Emeritus Robert E. Stake about Case Studies research methods.

During recent years she has been focused on improving qualitative and participatory research methods. Also, working with others in transdisciplinary research projects about sustainable forest management supporting biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services in rural areas. The research is part of Fátima’s membership of the iuFOR - Sustainable Forest Management Research Institute of the University of Valladolid at Palencia (http://sostenible.palencia.uva.es/). This research work has been exploring the social and cultural dimensions of sustainability and rural development.
One such collaborative projects is ‘A Model Forest’ . A Model Forest is a voluntary association of people that live in a particular territory, and are interested in discovering, defining, enhancing and guarantying its sustainability; and in sharing their experiences and their knowledge to contribute to global environmental goals.
